Energy-Efficient Swimming Pool Tips
There are some basic things you can do to keep your investment energy efficient.
1) Reduce the pool filtration operating hours to a minimum while maintaining the cleanliness of your pool
- Run your pool filtration system on a timer rather than continuously.
- Run your pool during nighttime hours by putting the filter on after 8 p.m. and turning it off by 10 a.m.
2) Keep filters clean to improve the efficiency of other pool equipment and keep your pool chemicals balanced.
3) Consider replacing your old filter with a new water-saving filter. This will save between 180-250 gallons of water when backflushing.
4) If you have a pool heater or spa, make sure you cover the heated pool or spa water whenever the pool is not in use to make sure none of the heat escapes.
5) If you heat a pool or spa, heat it only when you plan to use it. Typically, a pool is heated to no more than 78 degrees F, and a spa to no more than 102 degrees F. Avoid overheating the water.
6) Consider replacing your pool heater with a solar pool heating system. This can be done quite simply by purchasing a solar pool cover.
7) Solar lights can be used to light the poolscape area.
