Check off what pool safety equipment you already own, making it easy for you to see what safety equipment you still must purchase. For those items you may already have stored away and re-use seasonally, make sure that it is all is in good working condition prior to opening your pool for the season.
- Pool life ring - for conscious people at risk of drowning.
- Rope to attach to the pool life ring.
- Pool safety hook – to pull out those at risk of drowning who are unconscious or too unstable to use the life ring.
- Pool safety pole
- Life vests fitted properly to the non-swimmers in your household.
- “No Diving” sign - for above-ground swimming pools or for shallow ends of in-ground pools.
- Depth markers
- Other pool rules signs necessary for visiting swimmers (ie. “pool closed” “No glass in or near pool”, etc).
- Well-maintained ladders with railing and steps in good condition.
- First-aid kit.
- Drain and filter covers to avoid swimmers’ hair from becoming entrapped.
- Emergency shut-off switch to shut power off from electrical units quickly in case of a pool emergency.
- Child-proof gate latches securing the fence around the pool.
- A highly-visible water-proof folder for all MSDS sheets relating to pool chemicals and their hazard information.
- Safety gear for handling pool chemicals, such as face shields, gloves, goggles and aprons.
- Anti-slip flooring for around your pool deck.
