Swimming Pool Opening
A swimming pool “opening” refers to the process of opening (or making available for use) a pool for the warm weather season.
Opening a swimming pool should not be a difficult task. The following general instructions are a guide to making this task easier.
- All debris should be removed from the cover before removal takes place.
- Standing water can be pumped off with submersible pump.
- Remove the pool cover; lay the opened pool cover on your lawn or driveway to clean. Completely dry before folding and storing for the season.
- All winter plugs need to be removed, install skimmer baskets and fittings. Place drain plugs back in place on your equipment. Some types of pools will require you to attach skimmer return hoses to the pump and filter.
-As described in Swimming Pool Winterization, your pool pump and filter should be in proper operating condition if not, clean your filter as described in your manufactures instructions. At this time, install any additional equipment and/or accessories.
-Your pool system should now be turned on. Prime and start your pool. Check for proper flow and leaks. Reconnect all ground wires to your pump and other components. Thoroughly backwash your filter.
Brush the walls and floor, vacuum to remove dirt and small debris
-Shock your pool, read carefully and follow the manufactures instructions for proper application.
Add chlorine or bromine chemical to sanitize your pool. Test the levels of your PH, alkalinity and chlorine adjust as needed for proper balance.
-Examine your stairs, hand rails, diving board and any other equipment you may have for wear and damage; repair or replace.
