Aquapedia → Pool Safety Covers
Pool Safety Covers Pool safety covers are vinyl or mesh winter covers designed to keep people and animals from falling into the swimming pool by being stretched across the pool, and secured to anchors that have been installed around perimeter of the swimming. Pool safety covers can and should be used on all in-ground swimming pools. Pool safety covers may not be able to be used on many above-ground pools. If a safety cover does not work with a particular above-ground pool, other safety precautions should be taken, such as a fold-up ladder, fencing, and/or a pool alarm. A pool safety cover can also be used for the cold season when the pool is “closed” or in ‘winterizations” or for long periods of time that the swimming pool goes unused during the warm “opened” season. The anchors that support and help stretch the safety cover must be installed in a strong material, such a concrete or wood decking. The safety cover will not be able to protect people and animals from accidental submersion if the anchors are installed in earth (soil, grass, sand, etc).
