Bromine

Bromine is a swimming pool water disinfectant similar to chlorine, used in place of chlorine, by being fed into a swimming pool and maintained at minimum levels on a regular basis.

Swimmers with more sensitive skin generally choose to disinfect their pool water with bromine rather than chlorine.  Maintaining a bromine-disinfected swimming pool is not much different than maintaining a chlorine-disinfected swimming pool.  Both chemicals must be added to a swimming pool and maintained at proper levels on a regular basis.  The water sill needs to be filtered, circulated and all chemical levels must be balanced.  If you choose to switch to bromine from using chlorine, simply adding sodium bromide to the chlorinated pool.  When you test the pool water make sure the test kit is designed for bromine, as test kits designed for chlorine will read higher levels and make it difficult to maintain a balance.
