Pool Skimmers

Pool skimmers skim out floating debris at the surface of the water such as leaves and insects.  Skimmers are located at the overflow points of the walls of swimming pools.  Skimmers can also be used during maintenance routines to add chemical tablets to the water.

Swimming pool skimmers often encounter problems that will require a skimmer replacement.  Skimmers can sometimes crack, leak or separate from the pool wall.  Skimmers can also be damaged by freezing during the winter months.  For an underground, concrete pool, replacing a skimmer can be quite costly.  If the skimmer has separated itself from the concrete wall of the pool and is leaking, pool owners can temporarily patch up the leak with an underwater pool putty. Skimmer lids and weirs (flapper gates) can, however, be easily repaired for not much of cost.  Generally such simple replacements can be done by the pool owner and only cost the price of the part.
